Chicago Passes New Paid Leave Regulations for 2024
Chicago has recently unveiled its new “Paid Leave” and “Paid Sick and Safe” Leave Ordinances earlier this month. The Ordinance covers all employers who have employees in the city of Chicago. Leave is split into two categories: Paid Sick and Safe Leave and Paid Leave. The important facets of the law are outlined below:
Set to take effect on December 31, 2023, this Ordinance will replace the city’s previous paid sick leave law beginning in 2024. As this is a large and complex change to existing paid leave law, employers should ensure that they are familiar with the new regulations as soon as possible to minimize confusion in 2024.
