New York City Mayor Eric Adams has officially announced that the COVID-19 vaccine mandate placed on the city’s private sector employees will be lifted on November 1, 2022. However, the city is still encouraging employees to get vaccinated and boosted before returning to the office.

In the wake of the end of the NYC vaccine mandate, employers are now given far more freedom in crafting COVID-19 policy for their workplace. Employers should take care that not all COVID-19 rules have been rescinded and should actively work with Human Resources to determine the legality of any new policies. Employers should also consider the impact on employees any rapid changes to safety policies could create.
