This is a reminder that the Patient-Centered Outcome Research Institute (PCORI) fee for self-funded group health plans that ended in Plan Year 2022 (on or before December 31) must be paid to the IRS by July 31, 2023. Plan years ending in 2022 are subject to the following PCORI fees:

- Health plans that had an ending date between January 1, 2022 and September 30, 2022 will have a PCORI fee of $2.79 per covered life.

- Health plans that had an ending date between October 1, 2022 and December 31, 2022 will have a PCORI fee of $3 per covered life.

Employers should process plan data regarding 2022 plan end dates and 2022 plan participants as soon as possible. As a reminder, an employer’s total annual PCORI fee is equivalent to the applicable dollar amount stated above multiplied by the average number of enrolled employees during that plan year. This information must be reported on IRS Form 720.

You can view the Form 720 and its instructions HERE.
