This is a reminder for all New York State employers that the state’s Prenatal Personal Leave is set to take effect on January 1, 2025. Prenatal Personal Leave provides up to 20 hours of paid leave to pregnant employees for prenatal care (such as doctor appointments and other necessary procedures).

Prenatal Personal Leave is part of New York State’s Paid Sick Leave program, which means that this leave is provided in addition to any form of prenatal leave available under New York State’s Paid Family Leave Program.

New York State has stated that they will continue to provide guidance and updates as 2024 ends. FNA Insurance Services, Inc. will continue to follow this leave as more information is provided by the state. Employers should prepare to provide additional prenatal leave for the 2025 calendar year in anticipation of the new rule.
